The name was created in 1926 by the merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft with Benz & Cie. to form Daimler-Benz AG. The company produced marinized truck engines for the marine industry. Today, the marinized versions are sold under the MTU brand - e.g. the MTU 12 V 183 OM 444LA.
