SKL
SKL (VEB Schwermaschinenbau "Karl Liebknecht") was an engine manufacturer based in Magdeburg. Founded in 1838 as Maschinenfabrik Buckau R. Wolf, SKL produced various engines. During the time of the GDR, SKL engines were used as propulsion engines on more than 4000 ships. Alone 50,000 engines were in operation on inland and ocean-going vessels of the USSR. SKL also manufactured numerous engines as shore power units. In the 2000s, the company was successively merged into MTU Friedrichshafen.
